Our 10-team league uses a similar concept. 6 teams make the playoffs, with division winners getting a first round bye. The other 4 teams play the "Toilet Bowl". Draft slots 1 - 4 are determined by the Toilet Bowl bracket, with the team that wins both it's games getting #1, and the team that loses both getting #4. For the playoff bracket, the teams that lose in the first round play for #5 and #6, the losers in the semifinals play for #3 and #4, and the Championship decides #1 and #2. The TB loser must use a special icon for his team during the draft next year (we usually have in-person drafts barring pandemics). And the slots here are actually draft slots, but slots in the weighted draft lottery, as we reset every year, with one possible keeper. Helps keep everybody interested through the playoffs.
